Pittsburgh, PA is a city that is located in western Pennsylvania.  This travel review is long overdue because I went here last summer, and to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by this city.  I thought that Pittsburgh was going to be mainly industrial, which it is, but there was way more to the city than I thought.

In this review, I am going to be focusing on the cultural aspects of the city that I really liked, A few restaurants that I went to, and also talking about the people that live here.   Before I get any further, I would like to mention that we stayed near the cultural center of the city.
Since this is a new variation of an article type that I did for a long time, I am going to be setting up a point system.

Review

Culture ( 10 / 15)

The city of Pittsburgh has a very unique culture around it.  Even though there is mainly Steel and industrial buildings in the city,  there is a lot of other things that are not often noted when people are talking about it.  The food here was outstanding, and there was an entire drag designated for markets known as 'The strip" to the locals.  We spent a total of 4 or 5 hours there total, seeing what they had there.

Inside the strip, there was many restaurants and stores that you would not find anywhere else in the United states which were really cool.

Atmosphere ( 10 / 15)

This city has a really nice atmosphere during the day, however, there are couple areas that gave me the creeps when we were walking around the streets at night.  However, there are club's and stuff that are active.

This city overall had a good atmosphere thus a 10.

People ( 9 / 10)

The people of Pittsburgh are generally very nice and helpful.  Also, they are very respectful of everyone most of the time.

Neighborhood (9 / 10)

The neighborhood that we stayed in was in the cultural district, just a few blocks from the cultural center of Pittsburgh.  The strip was an awesome experience.  It was so much fun we spent two full days just wandering around it, and stopping in the shops that we thought were interesting.

Layout / Navigation (7 / 10)

This city is not laid out like your traditional city.  What I mean by this is the fact that the city was not laid out in your traditional "Grid" System.  There were many different towns that were inside of the city that had a grid, but that wasn't always the case.

That being said though, we did get lost once or twice, but we got back on track, so I give this city a 7.

Proximity ( 8 / 10)

This city is really spread out.  Some of you that live around there might agree with me on this because there are really three main sections of the city because there are three rivers that come together in the middle of the city.

Even with that though, we still were close enough to participate in everything that the city had to offer.

Professional Sports (4 / 6)

This city is a sports city.  It has 4 out of the six main sports that I watch.  2 of which are competitors year after year of their respective sports.

The most recent team to applaud from this city was the Pittsburgh Penguins who won the Stanley Cup this past year.

Skyline (4 / 5)

The only complaint that I have about this city's skyline is the fact that you do not get a good look at it coming from the west because of some rolling hills (which is a good problem to have, I'm not going to lie).  But once you come around the turn on I - 376 you get your first look at it, and the skyline looks fantastic up against the rolling hills surrounding it.

However, there was a little bit of smog which kind of took away from the whole experience.

Charm ( 4  / 5)

This city did have some charm to it, but it was not enough to give a full score

History (4 / 5)

There is some history in this city.  Mainly having to do with cleaning the city up so that there is less smog in the air.

Landscape (5 / 5)

In Pittsburgh you have three rivers converging, and not only that but the city is also in the middle of a valley so you are surrounded by hills on all sides.

Extra points

  •  Architexture (1 / 1)
  • Uniqueness ( 1 / 1)
  • Nightlife (0 / 1)
  • Parking ( 2 / 3)

Total Points (74 / 106)
