3-5-7 Deepwater Horizon

Disclaimer There are several controversies surrounding this movie and also the topics that are in the film have at least two sides.
A movie poster

For my first non-sequel Movie that is being featured in the 3-5-7 article series, I have decided to look at a movie that is based on a true story, Deepwater Horizon. This is also In honor of the lives lost 6 years ago Last week.  For those of you who do not know what Deepwater Horizon was, I will unpack it a little bit before I go into a short summary and the predictions.  Also I am not doing the character development part of this usual type article, Instead, a tribute to those who died.
(The photos that are used are from the film)

Deepwater Horizon was a Tragedy that occurred on April 20th 2010 of the coast of Louisiana.  The tragedy Killed 11 and injured 17.  It is still to this day the largest oil spill in history.  On the coast of the gulf there was about 1,100 miles that were polluted along with Several animals getting plastered with the leaked oil.  The animals that were around the area also suffered long term disease.  BP (who owned the Drill) Eventually settled the claims that were made  by the victims.

The movie Deepwater Horizon goes into the event from the perspective of the people that were on board the rig.  The cast includes Kate Hudson, Mark Wahlberg, and Dylan O'Brien (Just to name a few of the people in the film).  It is directed by Peter Berg, and written by Matthew Michael Caranahan, and Matthew Sand.  It is a disaster film so be warned, it may be sad.

3 General Things I want to See

As usual there are three general things that I want to see in this film.  The first of these is some awesome long shots as seen on the original news reports (That show the oil spreading throughout the gulf), A soundtrack that causes the feels to come upon the people in the theater, and I want it to stay true to the original event.

I would love to see some amazing Camera angles during this film because of a couple reasons, and Also I am going to give an example Of one of the things That I would love to see.  The first reason I would love to see some amazing camera angles is because great camera work results in amazing movies, and the second Reason I would Love to see some amazing camera work is because it brings the people into the film.  I have a feeling that if the cameras Are good in this film, it might get nominated for an Oscar (Best picture more accurately).  An example of an amazing camera shot I would love to see is a look from above, showing the oil spread from the Deepwater Horizon Rig, out into the Gulf.  Another great camera angle I would love to see is one from (SPOILER) Caleb's perspective looking up at the oil exploding upward (End SPOILER).

The second general thing I would love to see in this film (Rather than see, hear I guess) Is an epic soundtrack.  The type of music I am thinking for this movie is A lot of Brass (Trumpets, French Horns, Saxophones, Trombones, etc.)  To give a heroic feel, if that is what they are looking for in this film.  The other instruments I am thinking for this film (If I was composing the soundtrack) would be A lot of the strings.  If I was composing this, I would use these instruments to evoke emotion, because the Deepwater Horizon was a tragedy.

The third and final general thing I want to see in this film is I want the film to stay true to the original Event that happened in 2010.  I also really do not want them to over dramatize the actual event, which is one of the things that people are afraid of for this movie, because the event has happened so close to the movie Release (I know 6 years).  See my section before the actual article got under way for more information on this section.

5 Specific things I want to see (Spoilers Possibly)

As always there are 5 specific things that I want to see in this film.  The first of these is I want the film to stress the unity of the people working on board saving each others Lives, The second of theses I want to see is Flashbacks from the characters that Have families at home, The third of these is  Survivors of the tragedy, the fourth is documenting  of the events that happened afterwords, and finally, a tribute to the people that died on board, and before the closing credits were the main characters are now (If they survived).

An Example of what I would
like to see in this film
The first specific thing I want to see in this film is the unity of the crew in that was on the original deepwater horizon during the actual tragedy come to life during this movie.  If the film was to nail this aspect, the film could possibly get quite graphic.  If you look over to the right, you would see an example of what I want to see in this film.  Also in this film I would like to see people giving other people repairs (If you do not know what that is, it is Hockey slang for giving each other stitches among other things on the fly), Helping each other out if they get into sticky situations, etc.  That is how people survived the actual accident.

The second specific thing I would like to see in this film is flashbacks from characters that are in the film from earlier points of their day.  This would show an aspect that is not usually shown in disaster films, which would be the fact that the people that were working on the deepwater horizon did not expect any thing major to happen at work.  It would also show us, the people watching, that these were real people with real families, who were expecting to be going home, perfectly healthy,  However that is just me if I was working.

The third specific thing I would like to see in this film is Survivors.  In most disaster movies, (The perfect storm, Titanic, I am Legend, etc.) Not a lot of people survive the tragedy that occurs.  In this real life event 11 people died and 17 people were wounded.  I would like to see similar numbers to these in the film, and among those people I would like to see a lot of the main characters in the film walking off the rise into the rescue boats.  Another reason I would like to see this in the film is because Of the potential ties that the characters would have developed in the film would not have to be broken, but this movie is a disaster film so I am not expecting this to happen.  Quite honestly, I am expecting at least one major character to die because of the tragedy.

The fourth specific thing I want to see in this film is a lot of the aftermath.  The aftermath would include certain bills that were put into place after the events of Deepwater Horizon, the environmental impact of the original event, and also some of the clean up That took place.  I would love to see these three areas of the aftermath because it would show that the movie is actually a tragedy rather that something That involves some heroic acts.  I remember watching the news reports on the tragedy and it did include the tar balls washing up on the shore, Which I feel would be an awesome shot by the way.

The fifth and final thing I would like to see in this film is  a tribute to the people that died on board, and before the closing credits were the main characters are now (If they survived).  This probably sounds like a cliche to tragedy films, but honestly I think it would help reduce the controversies surrounding this film including that the film would focus way to much on the heroics rather than the fatalities.  I also feel like this would also help the soundtrack come to life and give people the feels at the end of the film.  Another reason why this would be good for the film is it would fit into the real category of film.  This is based on real events.
