Album Review - Hollyn

The album cover
Hollyn is a fresh new artist.  She got signed onto Tobymacs Label (Gotee Records) last year and she has one album.  She has opened for Tobymac on both his fall and spring tours this year.

Review

This is Hollyn's first album, so there might be a couple of things for her to work on.    In my opinion there are a couple things that I love about this album, but there are also a couple things that I did not really like about this album.  I will start with the couple of negative things  that I noticed with this album.  I am not sure if this is where she wanted to go with this album, but the album was all over the map.  On this CD there is a combination of Hip Hop, Folk,  Pop, and maybe a little bit of country in there as well.  I understand why she did this though, But I honestly think she is still trying to figure out a specific sound.  Also, A thing that I did not like (although I like it better than the original) is she put a cover on this CD.  For those who do not know which song, it was All I Need is You. She did do a good job of making it her own though.

The positive things that are worth noting include the  strength of her voice, and She did not get shaken up  with the fact that she was recording for what I believe is her first official album.  Hollyn's voice is incredible.  I saw her both times I saw Tobymac this school year, and she did an AMAZING both times.  Her voice fills the Arena, and also the stereo in your car.  The runs she achieves are also very good.  She also seemed to have a very confident ora throughout the album, which seemed to draw the entire thing together.  Overall I give this CD 3 out of 5 stars because it is her first CD, and there also seems to be a couple of things for her to figure.  I also would love her future CDs to tell a story  (kinda like Tedashii's Below Paradise).

My Favorite Tracks
  1. All I Need is You (Cover)
  2. Nothin on You
  3. Steady Me (Feat. Aaron Cole)
