City Focus | Tallahassee, FL
Where I spent most of my time |
In this review, I am going to be sharing my thoughts, and given that I was only there for a day total, these numbers might be skewed because I did not spend that much time there. As I have done when I have done for these articles in the past, There are several areas I am going to be looking at. These areas are culture, atmosphere, people, Neighborhood, layout/navigation, proximity, sports, skyline, charm, history, and landscape. Along with these areas of specific ratings, there are also some extra points available. After the general review, I will list off a couple of places that you should check out. So let's get going.

Culture the city's character (9 / 15)
Tallahassee is a very cultured city. Just to hit a few spots, Adams street is an awesome spot to get either food or just get a little bit of charm. You also have the university practically right there which also brings a different level of culture.
Florida State University (The stadium is Back left) |
Atmosphere The City's vibe (11 / 15)
In the short time I was in the city, and out and about, I could tell that this place has a fantastic atmosphere. You have a bar at like every corner because of the college(s) that are nearby. Everywhere you look there is just a 6th sense that gives of a fantastic vibe. Not only can you feel the history that has happened there, along with the familiarity that comes with visiting a college town.
People The people that live in the city (7 / 10)
This is one of those areas where I can not really give a fair assessment of the people in the city because I wasn't there long enough. From what I could tell the people were pretty average.
Neighborhood The surrounding area (4 / 10)
Florida A&M University (is back middle) |
Just like every city though, there are places where I would be a little bit cautious after dark. We did not really have any issues though.
Layout / Navigation Getting around the city (10 / 10)
Tallahassee has to be one of the easiest city's to navigate that I have been to. In order to get to the capital, all you had to take the road we were on to the end. In order to get to Florida State University all you had to do was take the road that our hotel was on to Monroe Street and turn right. Then turn left on Pensacola street. Take that to the end and you are at the gate to Florida State.
The view from my hotel room. Jeepers! |
The City is designed well, though it does not have the most impressive skyline in the world. It takes about 10 minutes to get to one end of the city to the other. So it is relatively small, and did I mention easy to get around?
Sports | The sports in the city (4 / 6)
The sports here are different than most any other city I have been to. The only big sports that you have are related to either Florida A&M and Florida State. Both teams are pretty decent. FSU made it into March Madness, and the football team is pretty average. I really can't rate this fairly though because there were really no games going on, other than the baseball team getting their butts kicked at the Florida Gators.
Skyline | What the city looks like from a distance (1 / 5)
As I mentioned the skyline here in Tallahassee is really not that spectacular. Can you see it as you are driving there? Yes, but it is really nothing special like you get with either Pittsburgh, Cleveland Or New York. I know that Tallahassee is not really that big of a city. But even with that, take a peek at Milwaukee, or even DC.
Charm | The cities uniqueness (3 / 5)
Tallahassee is pretty average when it comes to charm. I love when you are walking through a city and you just get this fantastic feeling. I really do not know how to describe it, so for the sake of time, I am just going to call it the feeling. If I am being honest, I rarely got this feeling when I was walking around town. The only time I received this feeling was when we were walking up Adams street between College and Jefferson.
History | The cities past (5 / 5)
The first thing you see when you enter the capital from the front |
Given that Tallahassee is the Florida state capital, and home to a fairly large college, the history is real here. The first thing that you see inside the capital when you first enter has different seals including but not limited to the Florida State seal, The United States seal, and the Confederate seal, which is a fantastic tribute to the history of both the state and the United States
Landscape | The typography of the city (4 / 5)
I personally love when a city is surrounded by rolling hills or Mountains, but Tallahassee does not have that, though there are some rolling hills, they really are not large. That is my only complaint. Other than that there is just the right amount of slope to keep a man honest, but not so much to where you have to sit down just to catch your breath.

Featured Food
Andrews
Andrews is a restaurant that is located on Adams and Jefferson street that has a lot of great food. I personally got the Tallahassee Sassy burger and it was really quite Delicious. The sauce that they put on it was really good, and it added a minor kick. The fries were really quite good. It also is sort of a sports pub, so they have a lot of TVs. I was watching the Florida State vs. Florida Baseball game. They also had the golf tournament on as well so I alternated between the two. One fun little quirk that the restaurant does is it names its sandwiches and burgers after Senators and Representatives.
