Pack Mentality: Season 1

The Code and the Complexes (prologue Cont.)

Jackson continued to toss and turn while he battled with himself about his options.  There seemed to be two main sides He could meet with this guy to figure out what was happening with these wolves, or he could just stay majorly curious about what Rick man meant by the wolves etiquette.  He was also wondering why he just stood in the background while the wolves and him looked at each other.  Did he trust them he thought to himself constantly laying awake because his mind was racing.  He hadn't been hit with this kind of anticipation since his first ever track meet.

After a long night full of debating and lack of sleep.  He felt like he should go, but he wasn't sure, so he got up at 6:00 to walk to try and figure out where the ranger station was.  He assumed that it would be by where he ran into Rick, so he went there first and low and behold about a 200 meters  from where he ran into rick the first time, there was a building.  By this time it was about 6:15.  He wasn't sure what to do, so he knocked.  Rick answered shortly after and said, "bout' time.  Thought you wouldn't come today."
Jackson answered "How couldn't I when I was up almost all night trying to make sense of what happened."
Rick chuckled. "happens to everyone at some point in time.  Come in." he held the door open For Jackson.

At first sight, the cabin had about 4 major parts.  There was an office facing out the front window, a Kitchen, and a fully furnished living room and dining room with a fireplace that was cobblestone headed out the ceiling.  Beyond that there was a wall with two doors. One on the left that was propped open (Jackson assumed that was the bathroom), and one on the right that was shut.  Jackson didn't ask any questions.

Jackson asked the question that was majorly on his mind.  "I didn't see you on the way back to my campsite before I met those wolves.  Where were you?"
Rick answered the question by saying "I was at my desk just looking out the window."
Jackson asked another question. "Why didn't you come out earlier?"
"I trust them" was the reply.

Jackson was completely lost at this point, and Rick noticed that and unpacked his answer more throughly.  "The wolves have a code that one cannot understand in just one sitting, and I'm guessing your here to find out about how that began."
Jackson nodded.

Rick answered Jacksons body language and said "Lets head over to the living room so we could get more comfortable, because this could take awhile

The wolves have been around here for longer than I could remember.  I didn't learn that they lived by a code until The ranger before me told me and I am kind of sharing the knowledge that I have with the regulars here.  He asked Jackson "How long has your family come to this area?"
Jackson replied "For forever."
"Good because I now I can know that I am not making a mistake by sharing this information."

Anyways, Like I was saying the wolves have been around here since the park was built.  As you may know there are many different bodies of water around the park.  The one that we are on right now is  Shoshone lewis Lake complex.  There are also several other complex's/ Lakes that have other packs.  These other areas are heart lake, The Jackson Lake complex, and the Yellowstone complex.  The packs that are around Shoshone Lewis are the Kylie Pack, Carlton Pack, Daniel Pack, Skys Pack and Tylers pack.  Along with those there is the Packs of old, which is where they wolves go (according to wolflore) after they die.  No matter where you are in Yellowstone the packs have the packs of old.

The basis for all the packs that are in Yellowstone is the wolf code of ethics. This code includes multiple so-called laws that the packs have to follow.  These laws include:
  1. There must be a time of peace on the night of the new moon where every pack from the specific complex meets in peace on neutral ground (For Our area that would be the Pines)
  2.  No Pups can be involved in training of any kind until they are 5 months old
  3. The alpha and second in command must be mates
  4. Once a year at the night of the first harvest moon all the packs in Yellowstone must rotate hosting a gathering.
  5. When hunting, each pack must treat the prey with respect
  6. When patrolling and another group of wolves is close to a border, there must be a warning howl/bark from the leader of the patrol
  7. Medics cannot have relations with other members of the pack.
  8. When eating, The wolves must thank the packs of old for their prey
  9. The packs of old territories are places of peace and shelter, so no conflict is allowed.

Jackson said "that is actually really interesting and honestly quite organized."
Rick answered "yeah it is ."
At by this time it was around  6:45 and Ricks shift was about to end.  They parted ways, and Jackson headed back to his campsite.
