Ballpark Review: Progressive Field

Panorama
Ballpark Road trip number one.  This ballpark is progressive field, home to the Cleveland Indians.  Before I get started, some of the rankings may not be accurate because the game that we went to was a blowout to the twins (the team they were playing).   All in all I enjoyed this ballpark but there were a couple of things that could be improved for the fan experience.
Overview

  • Field Surface - Grass
  • Type of stadium - Open / Modern
  • Occupancy - 35, 225

The Goodyear blimp made an appearance
Easy To get to (0 - 3)
This stadium is easy to rate because it is actually right off the highway, and it is pretty much in the heart of the city, resulting in one of the shortest walks my family has ever had to get to a game. this resulted in the ballpark getting a 3 out of 3

Parking (1-5)
Parking at Progressive field varies from $5 to $20  and the parking lots are all around the field so I give this area 5/5.

Food Choices (Scale of 1 - 5)
The Food at Progressive field is spectacular.  They have a varying amount of food options and to make it better, they do not have a lot of traditional ballpark food, and the food places are very organized and easy access.   I give this area a 6 out of 5 (one point extra credit) because of the fact that there is a huge variety of food options.

Family Friendliness (Scale of 1 - 5)
This ballpark is one of the most family friendly ballparks I have ever been to.  To start out everyone behaved in the ballpark.  There was also a ton of class exhibited towards the kids that go to the games  as well.   To even tack on to this area there was a almost a small-town feel to the stadium.  these things resulted in a 5 out of 5
Architecture (1-10)
Progressive Field is very uniquely designed for a stadium.  There are a ton of box seats around the field, and it looks ok.  I also love the fact that the hundred level is below street level, and the outfield is very open out into the street so it also kind of looks super Cool.  Because of these features among others, I give this ballpark an 8.

Amenities (1-10)
Progressive fields amenities were everywhere and the garbage cans all had indians caps (that was kind of fun, and family friendly).  However the bathrooms were kind of dirty.  this resulted in a 7 out of 10

Atmosphere (1-10)
This area is kind of hard to rate because for our game they (the indians) were getting blown out of the water and the ballpark was honestly kind of dead.  But then when we were in Pittsburgh and I was watching the Indians game at a restaurant we went to, the stadium was rocking because they were winning.  When we were there we learned that they were a first place team, but it was not a sell out, and there really was no noise which is used a lot in this area to determine the ranking.  When we learned that this ballpark was kind of a let down.  I will say that The Fanbase is incredibly loyal and they didn't leave until the bottom of the 8th which saved this category from getting a lower score.  All things considered I give this ballpark a 3.5 out of 10.

Entertainment (1-15)
Box seats behind the plate
One of the big things that I look for in a ballpark is was I entertained? At this ballpark I was really entertained at this ballpark even though it was a blowout. The hot dog race was really funny, and it was full contact.  The Jumbotron was good  and the fireworks were good.  I give this ballpark a 10 out of 15.

Appearance (1-15)
This ballpark was one of the slickest, cleanest, comfortable, (Insert positive adjective Here) I have ever been to.  Despite all these positive things there are to say, I would recommend adding some annuals to the wall instead of platforms which would bring the experience full circle.  Overall I give this park a 15 out of 15 for this ranking system.

Overall Experience (Total and Letter Grade)

62.5 / 73  or a B
